Calculator guide

Calculate tax from a net taxable amount

The calculator multiplies the net taxable amount by the selected VAT or GST rate, then adds the tax to obtain the gross amount.

Confirm that the entered amount is net of tax and that the selected rate applies to the product, service, customer and transaction date.

Zero-rated and exempt supplies are not identical. Both may produce no tax on the invoice, but reporting and input-tax consequences can differ.

Invoice rules may require specific rounding, currency conversion and line-level treatment. Use this estimate for planning and verify compliance separately.

Formula

Calculate tax from a net taxable amount

Tax amount = Net amount × tax rate; Gross amount = Net amount + tax amount

  1. Confirm the taxable net amount.
  2. Confirm the applicable rate.
  3. Multiply net by the rate.
  4. Add tax to net for the gross amount.

Frequently asked questions

VAT and GST Calculator FAQ

What should I verify before using this calculator?

Verify country, platform plan, product category, tax treatment, currency and the effective date of every rate.

How accurate is the result?

The arithmetic follows the displayed formula. Accuracy depends on complete inputs, current rates and consistent treatment of taxes, refunds, shipping and other costs.

Can I use another currency?

Yes. Keep every monetary input in the same currency. The calculator does not convert exchange rates.

Should tax be included in revenue?

Use one documented convention. For profitability analysis, many sellers use revenue excluding pass-through sales tax or VAT, but local accounting rules may differ.

How should I handle refunds?

Use expected refund and return costs in planning, then reconcile with actual platform reports. Do not count refunded revenue as retained sales.

Are platform rates guaranteed?

No. Platforms can change rates by country, plan, category, payment method or contract. Verify current official documentation before a pricing decision.

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. Calculator inputs are processed locally in the browser.
