Calculator guide

Remove included VAT or GST correctly

A tax-inclusive amount already contains tax. Dividing the gross amount by one plus the tax rate produces the net amount; subtracting net from gross produces the included tax.

Do not simply multiply the gross amount by the tax rate. That overstates the tax because the rate applies to the net tax base, not the tax-inclusive total.

Use the rate applicable to the supply, date and jurisdiction. Reduced, zero-rated, exempt and special-scheme transactions may require different treatment.

Round according to invoice and local tax rules. Line-level and invoice-level rounding can differ by a few cents.

Formula

Remove included VAT or GST correctly

Net amount = Gross amount ÷ (1 + tax rate); Included tax = Gross amount − Net amount

  1. Confirm the applicable tax rate.
  2. Convert the rate to a decimal.
  3. Divide gross by one plus the rate.
  4. Subtract net from gross to obtain included tax.

Frequently asked questions

Reverse VAT and GST Calculator FAQ

What should I verify before using this calculator?

Verify country, platform plan, product category, tax treatment, currency and the effective date of every rate.

How accurate is the result?

The arithmetic follows the displayed formula. Accuracy depends on complete inputs, current rates and consistent treatment of taxes, refunds, shipping and other costs.

Can I use another currency?

Yes. Keep every monetary input in the same currency. The calculator does not convert exchange rates.

Should tax be included in revenue?

Use one documented convention. For profitability analysis, many sellers use revenue excluding pass-through sales tax or VAT, but local accounting rules may differ.

How should I handle refunds?

Use expected refund and return costs in planning, then reconcile with actual platform reports. Do not count refunded revenue as retained sales.

Are platform rates guaranteed?

No. Platforms can change rates by country, plan, category, payment method or contract. Verify current official documentation before a pricing decision.

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. Calculator inputs are processed locally in the browser.
