Calculator guide

Plan the cost of a Stripe refund

Enter the original successful payment, the refund amount and the processing rate used for that payment. Indicate whether the original processing fee is returned under your pricing agreement.

For standard pricing, original processing and currency-conversion fees are generally not returned for card refunds, while some payment methods or custom schedules can differ.

The calculator caps the customer refund at the original payment and separates the retained processing fee from any additional refund fee.

Use Stripe Dashboard transaction details as the final source because payment method, country and contract can change the outcome.

Formula

Plan the cost of a Stripe refund

Total cash impact = customer refund + retained original processing fee + additional refund fee

  1. Calculate the original payment-processing fee.
  2. Limit the refund to the original payment amount.
  3. Retain or remove the original fee according to the account schedule.
  4. Add any separate refund fee.

Frequently asked questions

Stripe Refund Cost Calculator FAQ

Should I replace the default rates?

Yes. Defaults are examples. Use the current rate and fixed fee from the marketplace, payment account or contract that applies to your country and transaction.

How accurate is the result?

The arithmetic follows the displayed formula. Accuracy depends on complete inputs, correct fee scope and consistent currency and reporting period.

Can I use another currency?

Yes. Keep every monetary input in the same currency. The calculator does not perform foreign-exchange conversion unless conversion is an explicit input.

Should taxes be included?

Follow the platform fee base and your accounting purpose. Some platforms calculate fees on tax or shipping; the guide and formula show the scope used here.

Why should I run more than one scenario?

Rates, advertising, shipping and refunds can change. A base case and a higher-cost case show how sensitive profit or payout is to those changes.

Is this an official calculator?

No. It is an independent planning tool. Confirm rates and final decisions with the linked official sources and your account statements.

Are my inputs uploaded?

No. Calculations run locally in the browser and do not require sending calculator inputs to a server.
